It was the tweet that broke the internet on Monday morning. “Hootie & The Blowfish are back with a big announcement: the band is getting back together for a new album and going on tour!” shared the Today Show via Twitter.
It’s been nearly 25 years since Darius Rucker first achieved mainstream success with his band, Hootie and the Blowfish. Their 1994 breakout album, ‘Cracked Rear View’ won multiple awards and after 14 years of sold out shows, Darius transitioned to the country space. Rumors circulated for in 2015 as 90’s babies were hopeful for a reunion tour.
During an interview with Cody Alan, Darius shared that playing with ‘Hootie’ is “like breathing. We can get up and play anytime. It’s like riding a bike.”
Darius also addressed the 2015 rumors with a blithe dismissal, “Its gonna happen. I just don’t know when. We are talking. We want to do it when the time is right.”
Darius and Hootie fans are rejoicing, because the time is NOW! The ‘Group Therapy Tour’ is here!
The ‘Group Therapy Tour’ is a full-scale tour featuring 44 dates and will lead up to a new album. The Barenaked Ladies will be joining them on the trek making this tour a 90’s alt-rock concertgoer’s dream.
Tickets for all 44 shows go on sale this Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Live Nation.com.
