Dolly Parton Shuts Down Interviewer Over Political Questions

Dolly Parton is clear about her role.

The pop culture legend denied an answer during a recent interview with ABC’s Nightline when the conversation turned political.

“Of course I have my own opinions about everybody and everything,” she told journalist David Wright. “But I learned a long time ago, you keep your damn mouth shut if you want to stay in show business. I’m not in politics. I’m an entertainer.”

The questions turned political when the topic of a 9 to 7 revival was discussed. The 1980 film addressed sexism and male chauvinism in the workplace and mirrors the similar modern-day issues brought to the forefront by the recent “Me Too” movement.

While Dolly wouldn’t touch on polarizing topics, she did express support for the victims who have come forward to tell their stories.

“I think [discrimination against women] is always going to be a part of our society. At least now it’s been brought to the forefront. I think everyone that’s ever been abused in any way should come forward to and should be listened to, be heard,” she said.

According to Deadline, actress Rashida Jones is writing a 9 to 5 sequel. No official word if and when it will hit the box office.
