Oprah Made Maren Morris Cry

Maren Morris is just like the rest of us.

In a new interview with Billboard, the country megastar opens up about the #MeToo campaign that exposes sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry, revealing Oprah Winfrey’s Golden Globes speech made a huge impact on her.

“Obviously, I am a huge backer of the Time’s Up movement. I feel fortunate that in my own life I have not had huge problems,” Maren says. “But don’t get me wrong, I have certainly had my own share of struggles over the years. You see stuff in the music industry, too, and I think what is coming out of all these conversations is that it’s making people double-check themselves. That’s a good thing. I was emotional watching the Golden Globes and cried when Oprah spoke so eloquently.”

Not one to shy away from speaking her own truth, Maren often states her opinions on sometimes controversial topics on social media.

“Basically, I try to live by the Golden Rule and treat people respectfully,” she adds. “I’m just really over the way some people have no problem acting disrespectful and shaming women.”

Maren is set to perform at the Grammys both with Eric Church and Brothers Osborne in tribute to the victims of concert violence and with Zedd and Grey on their new pop collaboration “The Middle.”
