Blake Shelton Invites Cancer Patient to Concert

Blake Shelton’s music has helped one little boy overcome the unimaginable.

Sammy Hodgett, 8, was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia at age 5 and, shortly thereafter, fell into a nearly six-week coma from a reaction to his chemotherapy treatment.

Against all odds, the little Illinois native awoke, and Blake’s 2013 hit “Boys ‘Round Here” was the first song he recognized.

“When he would actually be like, ‘I recognize that song,’ it just is overwhelming,” Sammy’s mom Becky told local news station News Eight.

When Blake got wind of Sammy’s story, he invited him and his family to his February 23rd concert at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, IL.

While the little survivor and his family are thankful for Blake’s generosity, they know they have a lot already to be thankful for.

“We’re all here, we’re all together,” Becky says, “he’s not in the hospital, it’s amazing.”

Blake’s Country Music Freaks Tour kicks off February 15 in Oklahoma.
