Garth Brooks is receiving backlash from his own community for his decision to lip-sync at the recent CMA Awards.
Anderson East and Miranda Lambert, who have been dating since September 2015, have spoken out against the CMA Entertainer of the Year for not singing live during the 51st annual event.
“I keep a lot of my opinions to myself and respect anyone making music,” Anderson wrote on social media, “but as a person who tries to put on the best and most honest show I can night after night... this truly offends me. I was told country music was three chords and the truth.”
Miranda then chimed in in the comments section, affirming her boyfriend’s thoughts.
“High five on this babe,” she wrote along with a high-five emoji. “if you can’t sing then don’t. It’s better to be honest than to pretend. I think it’s bull shit. My favorite performances in the show were live live. The truth.”
Garth attributed his “game-time call” to lip-sync to a sickness after 12 concerts in 10 days.
“The voice just isn’t there anymore, and you want to represent country music as best you can,” he told press backstage after the show.
Garth has yet to comment further in the wake of Anderson’s and Miranda’s criticisms.
