Garth Brooks Admits to Lip-Syncing on the CMA Awards

Even Garth Brooks has off days.

The country legend and newly crowned Entertainer of the Year spoke to reporters backstage Wednesday night (Nov. 8) after his big win at the 51st Annual CMA Awards, revealing he did indeed lip sync his performance of “Ask Me How I Know” earlier in the show.

“We made a gametime call on whether to sing to a track or lip-sync,” Garth said. “And we decided to lip-sync it.”

The now six-time CMA Entertainer of the Year attributed the decision to an illness following five concerts last weekend.

“We decided to lip-sync it because my voice was just not there,” Garth added, “and we wanted to represent country music the best we can.”

He resumes his world tour tonight (Nov. 9) with seven concerts in Spokane, Washington, before wrapping up the North American leg with a December 16 show in Nashville.
