Updated: Monday, October 2 at 12:37 P.M. ET

Country stars immediately began responding after a gunman opened fire on the Las Vegas strip Sunday (Oct. 1) during Route 91 Harvest festival.

Stephen Paddock, 64, began shooting toward the country music festival from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino. According to authorities, the suspect has been killed.

Jason Aldean was performing the fifth song of his closing set when the shooting began. He, his band and wife Brittany were rushed offstage during the "beyond horrific" incident.

More than 50 people were killed and more than 500 were injured in what is now being called the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Jake Owen, Chris Young, Big & Rich and others at the scene during the attack also have responded.

Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett and countless other country artists shared condolences to those affected.

Team Cody was not in Las Vegas during the shooting and are safe.
