Carrie Underwood Responds to Mike Fisher's NHL Retirement

2016 CMT Music Awards - Arrivals

It’s a new season for the Fisher family.

Carrie Underwood took to social media to react to news that husband Mike Fisher has announced his retirement from the NHL.

The country star commended her better half for his dedication to the Nashville Predators, with whom he’s played for the past seven seasons.

“Captain @mfisher1212 I sure am going to miss watching you play and cheering you on with the rest of Smashville, but I so look forward to seeing what God has in store for you in this next chapter of your life. You've given your teammates and the game your all for so many years...you've worked so hard and made us all so proud!”

Mike’s retirement, which he announced in an open letter with the Tennessean, comes after the Preds’ record-setting season, which saw the franchise earn its first-ever Stanley Cup Final.

“Endings are always tough, but I believe when something ends, there are new beginnings, new opportunities and new things to be excited for, too,” Mike writes.

Those new beginnings, Mike goes on to say, include more time with Carrie and their son Isaiah.

“Isaiah and I love you so much and are so excited to be able to have you home a lot more...We can’t wait to cheer on the @predsnhl WITH you in the stands,” Carrie says with “#ThankYouSmashville” and “#PredsFansForLife.”
