Why Miranda Lambert's Music Won't Ever Get Political

Miranda Lambert sings about kerosene, little red wagons and vices, but you’ll never hear her sing about one particular topic.

The country megastar opens up in a new Billboard cover story about her refusal to get political in her music.

“I am a 100 percent believer in not ever using the platform that I’ve built for anything other than music,” Miranda says, “because music to me is an escape from your own reality. I don’t want to go to a show and hear somebody preach about their opinions.”

The polarizing nature of today’s political landscape keeps Miranda’s feet firmly planted in her specific brand of country.

“It’s so divided [in politics], you can’t win anyway—and what are you winning? For someone to agree with you, and now you’ve spoken your piece and pissed off many other people, just for one person to go, ‘She’s right’? It doesn't do any good,” she adds.

In the Billboard piece, Miranda also sounds off on new Pistol Annies music, females on country radio and the song she wrote the day news of her divorce from Blake Shelton became public.
