The rising country star tells CMT’s Cody Alan one fan tried to convince his girlfriend he actually wrote the song.

“She emailed me thanking me for recording the song that her fiancée or husband had written,” Brett says exclusively. “I wrote her back and I said ‘Well, I wrote it with these other three people. Is he any of those people?’ She said, ‘No, his name is so and so. He said he wrote it alone.’ Busted!”

Brett recently celebrated the No. 1 single’s success at a Nashville party with his real co-writers, Trent Tomlinson, Tyler Reeve and Kyle Schlienger.

“In Case You Didn’t’ Know” held the No. 1 spot on Billboard‘s country airplay chart for two weeks.
