Legendary New Name Enters American Idol Rumor Mill

"American Idol" XIV Grand Finale - Show

Another day, another American Idol rumor.

The latest name to be thrown into the mix of potential judges from the newly rebooted American Idol is iconic artist Lionel Richie, according to TMZ.

Reportedly, Idol producers want Lionel, who once released a country album named Tuskegee, for his “legendary music career” and “knack for honing in on what will become popular.”

Paying the “Dancing on the Ceiling” singer may be a problem, though.

Word is production is already paying anchor judge Katy Perry a whopping $25 million to take part in the Idol revival, and host Ryan Seacrest is said to be raking in anywhere from $10 million to $15 million.

Also rumored to be in talks to judge Idol is Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry and Coldplay’s Chris Martin.

TMZ reached out to Lionel’s camp for comment with so far no response!
