It’s a sad day for Kelsea Ballerini and everyone else who had American Idol hopes Kelly Clarkson.
The original Idol winner was rumored to join the judging panel of ABC’s reboot of the one-time talent competition hit, and Kelsea Ballerini was all for it.

“If @kelly_clarkson is a judge, I’m trying out,” the “Yeah Boy” singer joked of the speculation.
But as it turns out, another TV talent show won over Kelly before Idol had the chance.
The “Piece By Piece” singer has been tapped by The Voice to serve as a coach on Season 14.
Kelly reveals “she [has] gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn’t been right until now,” adding she’s ready to break Blake Shelton’s winning streak.

With her just announced deal with NBC, any possibility for Kelly to sign on for the Idol reboot has been squashed.
Look for the American Idol reboot to hit the airwaves March 2018 on ABC. The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays through 2017 on NBC.
