What’s an American Idol reboot without Ryan Seacrest?

The host of America’s original talent competition spoke to rumors of the show’s return Monday (5/8) at his new job on Live! with Kelly and Ryan, saying he’d host again if it’s “work wife” wanted him to.

“I don’t know about that part yet. We haven’t gotten that far,” he clarified on whether he’d host a revival of Idol. “This was news to me actually last week.”

Variety reports ABC is nearing a deal to bring the one-time ratings juggernaut back to TV, and Ryan adds the reboot is “unofficial but very close.”

“I had said at the end of the series, ‘Goodbye for now,’ hoping somewhere it would come back and it was rumored to be going back to other networks,” Ryan went on to say. “I had no idea it was talked about to come [to ABC] until late last week I saw a rumor in the news. And I made a phone call and they said, ‘Yea, it may actually end up [on ABC].’ And I said, ‘That’s good to know since I work here.’”

Word is the new American Idol would debut on ABC in March 2018.
