Garth Brooks became one high school student’s instant prom date during a recent tour stop in Champaign, Illinois.
During his afternoon show on April 29, the country legend spotted Kate in the audience with her hair in a traditional prom updo and a sign that read, “Gonna be late to prom. Garth comes first.”

Garth then played “Ireland” at her request and invited the girl back to his night show if prom wasn’t any fun. Kate came back—all decked out in her prom dress—for the next show and helped with the T-shirt cannons during “Friends in Low Places.”

Garth later called the moment “one of the greatest memories I will ever have playing music live” during his Inside Studio G live stream on Facebook.
