Lauren Alaina On Finding Happiness After Insecurity

No battle is too big for Lauren Alaina.

The “Doin' Fine” singer reveals in a new interview with CMT’s Cody Alan how a recent trip to the beach helped her to overcome a lifelong insecurity.

“I just went on a trip and I was on the beach, and I walked from the beach to the pool to my room in my bathing suit,” she says at Pepsi Spring Jam in Panama City Beach. “I know that sounds like something really small, but for me, it was the biggest deal to me. I’ve called like five people and told them I was so happy and proud of myself for doing that.”

Lauren explains that exposing her body “without a cover up on or a huge T-shirt to cover myself up” meant a lot because she suffered from an eating disorder as a teenager. But with help from a personal trainer, the American Idol alum has learned how to “replace bad habits with good ones.”

“I just think there are a lot of people who have that insecurity—if it’s weight or if it’s the color of their skin or how tall they are, how short they are. Everybody has a battle in life,” Lauren goes on to say. “You have to do what’s right for you, and you have to get to a place where you’re happy. And whatever that is, just do it, and don’t be ashamed of that and be proud of that.”

Lauren’s latest album Road Less Traveled is available now. Look for her on the road this summer on Luke Bryan’s Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day Tour.
