It isn’t all the time that 30 of the best voices in country music take the stage together to honor one of its legends.
It happened Thursday night at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena for the Sing Me Back Home: The Music of Merle Haggard tribute.
Merle’s youngest son, Ben Haggard, opened the show with his father’s hit song, “What Am I Gonna Do.”
Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Jake Owen, Chris Janson and Dierks Bentley followed his performance to honor the late country hero by performing one of his hit songs.
Toby Keith raised his red solo cup alongside Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson, while Loretta Lynn and Kenny Chesney also honored Merle.
The show also featured montages that highlighted the best moments of Hag’s career.
His widow, Theresa, gave a heartfelt thank you and expressed she knew her husband was there in spirit.
