Thomas Rhett will always be country in his soul, but he’s not so country anymore in his soles.
The rising country superstar reveals in a new interview with Billboard why the moment he decided to stop wearing cowboy boots on stage has been scariest moment of his career so far.

“During my live shows, I was wearing nothing but cowboy boots,” Thomas says. “When I started to move around the stage a whole lot more and my show became way more energetic, I was like ‘I have to ditch these cowboy boots because I’m literally going to break my ankle.’ That’s when I started to wear sneakers on stage, which was probably the most terrifying transition as a country artist that I have ever made in my whole life.”
Thomas, who revealed he now collects sneakers, is set to debut his new single “Craving You,” a collaboration with Maren Morris, on Friday (3/31).
