Tim McGraw wanted to be shook up on The Shack.
The country icon turned Hollywood actor reveals in an exclusive interview he hoped his role as “Willie” in The Shack presented him with a challenge.
“I want to find stuff that’s challenging. The hardest stuff, though, sometimes, as an actor ... is playing something that’s close to yourself,” Tim tells Cody. “Those really are tougher than playing something that’s out of character for you. If you find something that’s not who you are but you can find a piece of yourself and put it into that character and just put a magnifying glass on it, then it’s sort of easier to step outside of yourself.”
Even though The Shack is Tim’s tenth film, he adds he still hasn’t found his acting comfort zone just yet.
“[I still feel] out of my element a little bit, which I think is good... You don’t want to be too comfortable doing anything,” he says.
Tim and wife Faith Hill sing “Keep Your Eyes on Me” for the film’s soundtrack, which also features Brett Eldredge, Dierks Bentley, Dan + Shay and others. The Shack, based on the best-selling book by the same name, also stars Octavia Spencer and Sam Worthington and hits theaters on Friday.
