Trace Adkins is taking his talents to the small screen. According to reports, the country music legend has signed on to join the cast of Fox's country music family drama Monarch, playing the role of Albie Roman, the reigning King of Country Music. The network announced the news just days after confirming that Susan Sarandon and Anna Friel are also set to join the cast of the midseason series.

Monarch is a multigenerational family drama set in Texas and tells the story of the Roman family, America's first family of country music. Adkins will star as the family patriarch alongside Sarandon who plays his insanely talented, tough-as-nails wife, Dottie Cantrell Roman, the Queen of Country Music. Albie and Dottie have built a country music dynasty — however, the foundation of their success is a lie. With their reign as country royalty in jeopardy, the heir to the crown, Nicolette “Nicky” Roman (Friel), will do whatever it takes to protect her family’s legacy and ensure her own quest for stardom.

The past few years have proved to be an enchanting time for Adkins both personally and professionally. The Grammy nominated star wed his wife, Victoria Pratt in 2019, joined best-bud Blake Shelton on tour earlier this year, and recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of his debut record, "Dreamin’ Out Loud", by releasing his 13th studio album, entitled The Way I Wanna Go — which features everyone from Snoop Dogg to Melissa Etheridge.

Catch Adkins on a TV near you when Monarch debuts with a two-night premiere in 2022; starting Sunday, January 30, following the NFC Championship, then continuing on Tuesday, February 1.
