In a recent interview with Cody Alan, Kelsea Ballerini dropped in to reveal the pinch-me moments that led to her collaboration with country icon Shania Twain.
Coming together to sing, "Hole In The Bottle" was a career highlight for Kelsea.
"They say don't meet your heroes…unless your hero is Shania Twain…then meet her, know her, and make music with her," Kelsea shared in a statement. "She's inspired me in every way and has become a mentor and friend and added some major sass and spice to 'Hole in the Bottle' the way only Shania could.
Kelsea shared with Cody how the new version of her fun song came to be.
"She did her vocals in Switzerland," laughs the "Miss Me More" singer. "Basically, Shania reached out at the beginning of the pandemic, and she said that she was working on new music and she wanted to see if we could do something together. We spent the next few months going back and forth on song ideas. Like, I would write a chorus on the guitar and send it to her and vice versa, just trying to find something that really felt like a true blend."
"It wasn't until I watched the music video for "Hole In The Bottle," where I really kind of tribute her in a lot of my fashion choices, and I thought, "Wait for a second, WHAT IF? What if I just had her help on this?" shares Kelsea.
"So, I emailed it to her and just said, "Hey! I know this is kind of a different route, but here's the video, and I am sure you will see some similarities." She added only what Shania could add to it," says Kelsea with a smile.
Asking the burning question, Cody asked Kelsea if she has a favorite Shania song.
Spoiler Alert: She is just as stumped as we are.
"No, no, I don't!" proclaims Kelsea. "I saw her in Vegas when she did her residency. It was like, just all of the moments… you think that you have a favorite song and then she sings, "That Don't Impress Me Much," and then you think that's your favorite song, and she is singing "You're Still The One," and you're like, "No, nom no, that's my favorite!" and then she sings, "Man, I Feel Like A Woman." You know what I mean?"
"I don't know. I just love HER," says Kelsea.
