Blake Shelton Hangs Out With Bear Cub For Science

Country star Blake Shelton was the "designated bear cub holder" for a group of scientists in eastern Oklahoma over the weekend.

He joined a group of wildlife biologists and researchers from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and Oklahoma State Universities as they tracked black bears on March 6.

The researchers were tracking a mother bear and its cub on Saturday. After tranquilizing the mom, the scientists are able to weigh the cub, take other measurements, and insert a tracking chip.

During all of this, Shelton had the very important and adorable role of keeping the bear cub warm while the researchers collected data. The scientists then safely return the cub to momma bear and her den.

Shelton was the group's honorary bear biologist for the day, and the Oklahoma native is quite an avid outdoors man.

“When I was 10, my dad took me out in the woods deer hunting with him, and it changed my life forever. Healthy fish and wildlife, and the opportunities to get outdoors, make Oklahoma a special place to live," he said in 2019.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation is letting others have the chance to be a bear biologist for a day as part of a raffle to raise funds for the state's conservation efforts.
