Why Carrie Underwood Says 2020 Was The Perfect Year To Release ‘My Gift’

Christmas starts early this year, thanks to country superstar Carrie Underwood.

In a recent interview with Cody Alan, Carrie shared why she felt 2020 was the perfect year to release her first-ever holiday album, ‘My Gift.’

“I have been waiting to do it for what feels like forever,” says the “Jesus Take The Wheel” singer. “This has always been something that has been on my musical artist bucket list, and after the ‘Cry Pretty Tour’ wrapped up last year, it was like now’s the time. Sometimes it’s like Double Dutch to try and work stuff in and figure out when you are going to do certain things that you really want to do. It was like, “Let’s do it! Let’s get to working on it!”

“Obviously, in the early spring of this year, everything got shut down, and we just pushed forward. Ya know? We had a lot of things already in motion, and we didn’t let it stop us, and we figured out a way to do this,” shares the singer before adding that making this album wasn’t just a gift that she hoped to give to fans, but she also received some significant benefits.

“To be honest, it was a nice thing to be able to go to our little studio, and there were only a few of us in there,” says Carrie. “I got to sing these songs, which just ended up being a bright spot in my days that were very quarantined slash socially distanced.”

Carrie boasts 20 CMT Awards, more than any other country artist, and is currently nominated for two more at the 2020 CMT Music Awards broadcasting Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 8 pm ET on CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, Pop and TV Land.
