Dan + Shay's Frontman Shay Mooney Channels Freddie Mercury On Vocals

Dan + Shay's new single, "I Should Probably Go to Bed," is an echo to mom's warning that nothing good happens after midnight. However, if you have heard this track played after the witching hour, you also know that mom was wrong.

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney recently joined CMT's Cody Alan to reveal the musical influences that inspired this country bop and motivate Shay's vocal acrobats.

"You hit some pretty intense high notes," Cody pings Shay. "Do you ever think about that in-studio? Like, "Eventually, I will have to sing these songs live, and maybe I should be careful with going so high?"

"No, not until I get there, and I have to sing it night after night live," laughs Shay. "You go there and don't really think about that…I should probably think about that, but ah, hey, as long as it sounds good in the recording!"

Shay continues and reveals that he is not underestimating any upcoming performances. "It is an intimidating thing, especially when I think of moments like what if we have the opportunity to play this at the Grammys. I'm already thinking 12 steps ahead, and I'm like, "Oh God, I'm going to have to hit that in front of millions of people."

Click the video below and listen to Shay's vocals flawlessly ascend into the heavens while being matched by Dan's intricate harmonies.

"Shay channeled a little Freddie Mercury on there," says Dan, also taking a moment to tip his hat to the Beatles, and the Beach Boys for inspiration.
