Martina McBride Surprised By ‘Independence Day’ Song Success

Martina McBride has an ear for picking hits. The powerhouse dominated the country radio airwaves in the 1990s-2000s with hits like “Broken Wing,” “Valentine,” and “This One’s For The Girls.”

In a recent interview with Cody Alan, the “Girl Like You” singer revealed one smash hit that she didn’t even expect to be a single.

“Interestingly enough, “Independence Day,” revealed Martina. “While I loved it. I never really thought of it as a single. I just knew that a lot of people really needed to hear it, but I never really thought it was a super commercial record so that one surprised me a little.”

1995 was a celebratory year for Martina! “Independence Day” would top the charts and land the star two Grammy Awards, one for ‘Best Country Song,’ the second for ‘Best Female Country Vocalist,’ and an ACM Award for ‘Country Music Video Of The Year.’
