Darius Rucker Shares Surprising Benefit To Volunteering

If you're graduating this year, or just in need of a pick-me-up, Darius Rucker shares what inspires him in hopes that it will encourage students and others to reach for the stars.

In an interview with Cody Alan, Darius shared his advice to graduates should he present a commencement speech.

"My message would be, "Find that one cause that makes you want to get out of bed on your day off to go help."

Outside of playing multiple charity concerts throughout the year, the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman is an active volunteer with Tennessee's 'Second Harvest Food Bank,' and is often spotted rolling up his sleeves alongside 'Habitat For Humanity.'

"I think that giving back and helping less fortunate people is so important. I have a lot of [charitable] causes that allow me to give up my days off to go and help. That's going to by my thing. Because life is going to be what life is going to be. Remember, there is always somebody worse off than you, and if you can take a little bit of time to help that person. Not only is it a great thing to do, but you will feel a little better about yourself."

"Good advice for all of us," Cody sounded off. "And the better you feel about yourself, the more likely you are to have a positive view of your life and future goals."

In a time when people are struggling, we should all focus on being kinder, spreading love and positivity, and devoting a slice of our energy toward making the world a better place. Listen to Cody's "TIP OF THE CAP" nightly on the radio, where Cody highlights someone in the community who is working for the greater good. Find your station at www.CMTCody.com.
