Route 91 Festival: Jake Owen Vows to 'Stand Up' to Hate

Jake Owen was among the 22,000 people at the Route 91 Harvest festival when shots were fired, killing more than 50 people and injuring another 400.

The country star, who had performed earlier in the night, tells CBS News he refuses to “live in fear” following the incident.

“I think it’s our duty as entertainers out here in the world to stand up [to] this sort of thing,” Jake says. “They can’t keep us down... because I think part of being entertainers is bringing happiness to people.”

Jake tweeted as the shooting unfolded he “witnessed the most unimaginable event.”

Jason Aldean was on stage performing when gunfire came from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel and casino.

Suspect Stephen Paddock, 64, is dead, according to authorities.
